David and Victoria Beckham lead jointly at £1.185bn (Sunday Times Rich List 2026), while Cristiano Ronaldo ($1.2bn, Forbes, 27 October 2026) is richest on personal fortune, ahead of Lionel Messi ($1.1bn) and Harry Kane (£110m).

Key Findings

  • Only Four Sourced Fortunes: Just four footballers have a recent, published wealth estimate: David and Victoria Beckham (£1.185bn, joint), Cristiano Ronaldo ($1.2bn), Lionel Messi ($1.1bn) and Harry Kane (£110m).
  • Football’s First Billionaire Player: Bloomberg first valued Cristiano Ronaldo at $1.4bn in October 2025. Forbes puts him at $1.2bn (real-time, 27 October 2026), helped by more than $200m a year from Al-Nassr.
  • Messi Joins Him: Forbes now counts Lionel Messi as a billionaire too, at $1.1bn, with around $1.9bn in career earnings before taxes and fees and a lifetime Adidas deal.
  • Two Myths Removed: Faiq Bolkiah’s famous “fortune” is his royal family’s wealth, and Mathieu Flamini’s “billions” are a myth he has denied himself.

Who is the richest football player on the planet in 2026? Online lists give confident answers, but most of their numbers have no named source. When you keep only the fortunes that Forbes, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index or the Sunday Times Rich List have actually estimated, the list gets much shorter.

Below are the richest football players in the world whose wealth has a published estimate from 2024 or later. We rank by the published figure. The Beckham figure is a joint household valuation. On personal fortunes alone, Cristiano Ronaldo leads.

Which four footballers have a sourced fortune?

1. David & Victoria Beckham — £1.185bn (Joint)

Country: England | Status: Co-Owner, Inter Miami CF

The Sunday Times Rich List 2026 valued Sir David and Victoria Beckham together at £1.185bn (about $1.6bn), up from £500m a year earlier, making him Britain’s first billionaire sportsman. The list does not split the figure between the two. The biggest change is the value of Inter Miami CF, which grew out of the MLS expansion option written into Beckham’s 2007 LA Galaxy contract. The club is now estimated at $1.45bn (£1.07bn), the most valuable in MLS, after Lionel Messi‘s arrival.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo — $1.2bn

Country: Portugal | Club: Al-Nassr (Saudi Arabia)

In October 2025 the Bloomberg Billionaires Index valued Cristiano Ronaldo at $1.4bn, making him football’s first billionaire player. Bloomberg counted more than $550m in salary from 2002 to 2023, a decade-long Nike deal worth almost $18m a year, and more than $175m from endorsements such as Armani and Castrol. Forbes puts him at $1.2bn (real-time, 27 October 2026). It says Al-Nassr pays him more than $200m a year and that he was the first active athlete to pass $2bn in career earnings before taxes and agents’ fees.

3. Lionel Messi — $1.1bn

Country: Argentina | Club: Inter Miami (USA)

Forbes values the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner at $1.1bn (real-time, 27 October 2026) and counts him as a billionaire. By Forbes’ estimate he has earned about $1.9bn on and off the pitch over his career, before taxes and agents’ fees. His move to Inter Miami in 2023 came with an option to buy an equity stake in the club when he retires, and he has a lifetime endorsement deal with Adidas.

4. Harry Kane — £110m

Country: England | Status: England Captain

England’s captain is the only current player among the ten richest names on the Sunday Times Rich List 2026’s sport ranking, joint 10th with Andy Murray on an estimated £110m. He is the only other active footballer we found with a recent published wealth estimate.

Faiq Bolkiah and Mathieu Flamini: Two Myths

Brunei captain Faiq Bolkiah, son of Prince Jefri Bolkiah and nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, is often called the world’s richest footballer, but the figure quoted online is his royal family’s wealth, and his own fortune has never been published.

Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini really did co-found the levulinic-acid producer GF Biochemicals, which we cover in our look at footballers’ businesses after retirement, but the claim that he is a billionaire is a myth he denied in 2018, saying the figure quoted online was the size of the market his company targets, not his wealth.

Why Neymar, Mbappé and Others Are Not Ranked

Many “net worth” lists give exact fortunes for Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, Zlatan Ibrahimović or Andrés Iniesta. None of these figures comes from Forbes, Bloomberg or the Sunday Times Rich List. Most are copied from site to site or built from reported salaries without allowing for tax, agents’ fees, spending or assets, and some of the same lists still put Bolkiah and Flamini at the top. A contract is not a fortune either: Neymar’s reported Al-Hilal wages (he returned to Santos in January 2025) or Mbappé’s Real Madrid pay show what a player earns, not what he owns. For context, the last published valuation of Dave Whelan, the former Blackburn Rovers player who built JJB Sports, was £190m in the Sunday Times sport rich list of 2011.

How We Built This List & Sources

We rank only players whose wealth has been estimated by a named publisher since 2024. We did not produce our own net-worth estimates. Figures are the publishers’ estimates, not official accounts. Forbes figures are real-time values as of 27 October 2026 and change daily. The Bloomberg figure is from October 2025, and the Sunday Times figures are from the Rich List 2026 (published May 2026). The Beckham figure is a joint household valuation. Salary figures are reported annual pay, not net worth.
